Created and developed by Integrative Therapist and Yoga Teacher James Knight, E-RYT, CHSE, Gentle Somatic Yoga® is an art of movement that is revolutionary in its ability to improve health, well-being, quality of life, and personal performance. It incorporates slow, mindful movements that raise bodily awareness to release persistent tension-based patterns in the body.

The therapeutic and corrective exercises, called Somatic Movement Flows®, are ideal for overcoming bodily pain and dramatically increasing flexibility through the healing power of brain-to-muscle repatterning and re-education.

This progressive method is the synergy of mindful movement and meditation. It has been inspired by and synthesized from the work of Eleanor Criswell, Thomas Hanna, Moshe Feldenkrais, and Lawrence Gold, as well as others.

This Introductory Training Program will introduce you to the practice of Gentle Somatic Yoga. You will learn from James how to repattern your brain-to-muscle neurocircuitry, which then allows you to move more freely as you take this into your yoga practice and classes.

In addition to learning a series of Somatic Movement Flows®, you will become acquainted with topics of somatic theory including: Sensory Motor Amnesia; the three involuntary stress reflexes – Red Light Reflex, Green Light Reflex, and Trauma Reflex; Pandiculation. You will also learn modifications to teach a wide variety of students safely, and how to utilize tips/props for specialty audiences.
