James Knight, Founder of Gentle Somatic Yoga, and Dr. Keith Motes, Founder of
Shaking Medicine. Shaking Medicine is a somatic therapy for embodying your instinctive therapeutic tremor mechanism. 

James and Keith will guide you through two Somatic Movement classes that will help you unwind from subconscious reflexes of holding trauma, pain, and stiffness from head-to-toe.

After each class there is a review session (Learning Laboratory), where you can ask questions about the method, how to tailor the movements for your body, and integrate what you've learned into your daily practices.

What You Will Learn

During this livestream workshop you will go deeper into learning how to tap into your own somatic intelligence and make generative decisions for every day living.

One Gentle Somatic Yoga inspired class that will invite you to release stress holding habits from head-to-toe. The result is creating space in your Soma and an embodied sense of freedom: Mind/Body/Soul


One Shaking Medicine class that will invite you into learning therapeutic tremoring. Experience greater health and wellbeing by naturally unravelling root causes of physical, emotional and psychological blockages.

Two sessions of reviewing each Somatic Movement based sessions. These "learning laboratory" sessions are designed for you being able to ask questions and customize these techniques into your daily home practices. 


How to unwind from deep subconscious stress-related patterns & symptoms within your soma (body). 


Therapeutic somatic movements that relieve muscle pain, significantly increase your flexibility, and generate a feeling of peace & wellbeing. 


New skills that you can implement into your classes or private sessions if you are a yoga teacher/therapist, bodyworker or health care professional that supports your students getting long lasting results

All sessions are livestreamed and recorded.* If you are unable to join us live for a portion of the sessions you will have access to the video recordings for 30 days after the program ends. Recordings are usually emailed within 3 days and are available to program participants only.  

*James and Keith will be the only ones spotlighted for most of the time. The exception is during the Q & A sessions. You're welcome to turn off your camera if you don't wish your image to be recorded.

Join James Knight and Dr. Keith Motes for an inspiring day of movement education and the embodiement of the Whole Self.

Proposed schedule - may change depending on the groups needs

Session One:  9am - 11:30 am (Pacific Daylight Time)

  • Welcome:  Brief introduction of Gentle Somatic Yoga® (GSY)
  • Gentle Somatic Yoga class 
  • Short break
  • Learning Laboratory and Q & A: James will review each Somatic Movement Flow® taught in the morning class. During this Lab there will be a brief review of the history, method, neuroscience, and philosophy of GSY. As well, James will offer tips and guidelines to help tailor the somatic movements for your body. 

Break:  11:30am - 12:00pm

Session Two:  12:00pm - 2:30pm

  • Welcome:  Brief introduction of Shaking Medicine:  Therapeutic Tremoring 
  • Shaking Medicine class with Dr. Keith Motes 
  • Short break
  • Learning Laboratory and Q & A: Keith will review the class he taught. During this Lab Keith is happy to expand more upon the  history, method, neuroscience, and philosophy of Shaking Medicine. As well, Keith will offer tips and guidelines to inspire you to continue exploring this ancient and instinctive practice.

About James

James has been an E-RYT, CHSE (Certified Hanna Somatic Educator), and Integrative Therapist for 30+ years. As one of the early pioneers of bridging Somatics and Yoga, his passion is to inspire and encourage others to live a fulfilling life of physical, emotional and spiritual freedom.

From his combined experience as a lifelong yogi, intuitive bodyworker, psychotherapist, and movement educator, James founded a method of integrating what he discovered to be the most progressive, life-enhancing techniques into an embodied practice of mindful movement. Gentle Somatic Yoga® (GSY) was born out of years of exploring means of connecting with the deepest aspects of himself.

As an architectural and interior designer, master Feng Shui consultant, and professional photographer, James enjoys designing sacred spaces and other creative endeavors that reflect his spiritual aesthetic. On a personal level, he enjoys spending quality time with loved ones while cultivating and energizing conscious communities.

About Dr. Keith MOtes

Dr Keith Motes is a quantum physicist from Louisiana. He moved to Australia to do his PhD in Sydney, Australia on quantum computing technologies. You can find his thesis and scientific publications here. He is now a dual citizen of Australia and the USA.

He embodies and teaches health and well-being embodiment arts of Indian & Taoist Yoga. He has been greatly touched by spontaneous therapeutic tremoring within these arts and was inspired to create the Shaking Medicine Foundation based at This homepage has resources to remember your innate ability of spontaneous therapeutic shaking as well as for practitioners to become qualified and insured to facilitate Shaking Medicine.

Dr Motes is passionate about all things related to physical, mental and emotional health utilizing wisdom from science, various health and wellbeing modalities, Traditional Chinese Medicine, indigenous cultures and his own ever-expanding experience.
