Qigong Yoga with Alison
Qigong (pronounced chee-gong) was developed in China thousands of years ago as part of traditional Chinese medicine. It involves using mindful movement, paried with breath, to optimize energy within the body, mind, and spirit.

Qi means “life force,” the energy that powers our body and spirit. Gong is the term meaning work or gather.

Qigong is a practice to encourage the free flow of Qi through our meridians (energy pathways).
Gentle Somatic Yoga® with James
Gentle Somatic Yoga® (GSY) is a science based, heart-centered, and whole body approach for deep self-care and self-healing.

GSY incorporates therapeutic somatic movements that are designed to help you feel more comfortable in your body and amplify your immune system.

For many people this easily accessible method is ideal for letting go of persistent stress-based patterns of pain, stiffness, and postural imbalances.

Many people ask about complementary healing modalities/practices that are compatible with GSY... We are excited to introduce our first collaborative practice combining Qigong, Yoga Vinayasa Flows, and Somatic Movement Flows®.

In this workshop, certified Gentle Somatic Yoga Practitioner Level 1, Alison Hughes, will teach Qigong 5 Elements Flow

The Five Elements represent the energy in nature, and inludes humuns. Each element connects to an internal organ, a body system, positive and negative emotions. Working with the elements demonstrates the interconnnectedness of all living things. They also highlight that  emotions effect the body, and the body effects the mind.

This Five Element routine helps us to find balance and harmony from the inside/out. The Five Elements include Water flowing down the mountain and becomes the trees (Wood). The trees reach up toward the sky to absorb the Fire of the sun. The sun awakens the life throughout the Earth, and earth condenses into the precious metals deep under the soil. Air is the element that joins, and adds life force to all the other elements.

We are all part of this Five Element cycle, and all the elements manifest within, keeping us connected to nature and the cosmos. The routine Alison will teach us balances all five elements within us. When the elements and energy is balanced inside, we feel happy, healthy and whole. This routine opens the meridian lines, the rivers of energy that flow through your body and energize the Whole Self (Soma).

James Knight, E-RYT, CHSE, is the Founder of Gentle Somatic Yoga and Somatic Wellness™. He has been an Experience Yoga Teacher, Certified Hanna Somatic Educator, and Integrative Therapist for 30+ years.

James was an early pioneer to bridge hatha yoga with Somatics. His passion is to inspire and encourage others to live a fulfilling life of physical, emotional and spiritual freedom.

From his combined experience as a lifelong yogi, intuitive bodyworker, psychotherapist, and movement educator, James founded a method of integrating what he discovered to be the most progressive, life-enhancing techniques into an embodied practice of mindful movement. Gentle Somatic Yoga® (GSY) was born out of years of exploring means of connecting with the deepest aspects of himself.

Alison Hughes began her Yoga journey in 2004, when she was searching for natural therapies to assist her in coping with the challenges of living with chronic pain. She will be forever grateful to have found Dru Yoga and more recently, Gentle Somatic Yoga and Qigong.

Alison has enjoyed teaching Dru Yoga since 2008 in various settings, including Health Clubs, the NHS, Mental Health Charites and Collages in Glasgow, Scotland.

Since moving to the beautiful village of Symington, Scotland in 2013, she enjoys teaching weekly classes in the village hall, as well as Online classes and workshops.

It is her passion to help others improve their quality of life physically, mentally and emotionally, as this is what Yoga and Qigong practice has done for her.
