More Information

This monthly series of livestream Somatic Sanctuary EXPERIENCIAL workshops, are designed to bring balance and nourishment to the whole-self (Mind, Body, Emotions, Energy, and Spirit). Learn and discover more what you soma craves for deep self-care.

In stressful life experiences, we can temporarily lose our ability to self-regulate and control our physiology. In Gentle Somatic Yoga we call this sensory motor amnesia (SMA). When we are in this state, natural everyday movement can become limited and less enjoyable.

With an attitude of exploration, we can learn how to listen to our inherent somatic intelligence and intuitively unwind from stressful life experiences stored in our tissues (muscles and fascia) and energy field. We can initiate this process through finding creative body shapes through Somatic Movement Flows® and meditation (soma scans).

_______________________________

Fee: Sliding Scale ~ $25 or $30 USD

Each livestream Somatic Sanctuary workshop is approximately 1.5-hours of nourishing movement practices with an optional .50-hour Q&A session following. CEU’s available for yoga teachers and yoga therapists upon request.

RECORDINGS:

When you sign-up for this workshop, you will receive a Zoom invite via email.  For those that live in other time zones that make it difficult to join us, you can still sign up and you will receive replay videos of the sessions for future practice. You will have access to the recordings for 30 days after the event.  Beyond that timeframe, the follow-along videos will be available long-term in our ever-expanding virtual video library: Somatic Wellness TV.

Livestream workshop: March 25,2026. 4pm – 6:30pm MT  ~ Facilitated by James Knight.

The theme is: Re-educating the Soma ~ Gentle Somatic Yoga® as a Therapeutic Path to Sustainable Healing

More Information
Please consider joining us for a Gentle Somatic Yoga® (GSY) livestream workshop designed to awaken your body’s natural somatic intelligence & support whole-self healing.

Gentle Somatic Yoga® is rooted in the understanding that the soma—the living, sensing body experienced from within—holds innate intelligence for healing, self-regulation, and functional restoration.

In this experiential workshop, yoga therapists are introduced to the principles of pandiculation and Somatic Movement Flows® as powerful tools for addressing chronic tension, persistent pain patterns, and mobility challenges—particularly in aging populations and clients with long-standing neuromuscular habits.

Rather than stretching or externally adjusting the body, Gentle Somatic Yoga® works through voluntary, internally guided movement to improve brain–muscle communication, recalibrate resting muscle tone, and restore ease of movement. This approach complements yoga therapy by supporting long-term change without strain, force, or exhaustion.

Designed as both a therapeutic education and a personal somatic inquiry, this workshop invites practitioners to refine how they work with the nervous system—helping clients reclaim agency, safety, and trust in their own bodies.

What You Will Learn

  • Release Chronic Tension
Learn foundational Gentle Somatic Yoga® Somatic Movement Flows® that support the release of habitual muscle contraction and improve functional mobility—especially useful for seniors and clients with long-standing tension patterns.
  • Regulate the Nervous System
Explore practical, trauma-informed strategies for working with clients experiencing chronic pain, stress, and mobility limitations through gentle neuromuscular re-education.
  • Restore Functional Movement & Agency
Gain an understanding of a science-informed somatic method that empowers clients to actively participate in their healing process—supporting sustainable change rather than temporary symptom relief.

This workshop is ideal for yoga therapists, yoga teachers, and healthcare professionals seeking to integrate a gentle yet effective somatic approach into their work. It is also open to individuals who wish to experience the therapeutic benefits of Gentle Somatic Yoga® for their own health, longevity, and wellbeing. It is hosted by Inner Peace Yoga Therapy School and offered as continued education.

New Moon Ceremony: Somatic Movement, Polyvagal Yoga & Sound Bath

April 18th, 4 – 6pm, 2026 ~ (Optional fire-side circle to follow). Followed up by facilitated by James Knight and Tracy Aleksić

A New Moon Ceremony weaving Gentle Somatic Yoga®, polyvagal yoga, meditation, and crystal bowl sound bath inside the Santa Rita Lodge yurt, located in Madera Canyon, near Tucson, Arizona. This gathering is an invitation to re-program & strengthen the brain-to-muscle connection, bring balance to the nervous system, rejuvenate, set intentions for this renewed timeframe, and build conscious community in Tucson.

More Information

Throughout this two-hour ceremony (with optional fire-side circle to follow, James and Tracy will weave their approaches together — passing the baton between Gentle Somatic Yoga®, gentle Hatha Yoga variations with an emphasis on coregulating the nervous system through polyvagal practices, meditation, and a restorative sound bath with crystal bowls.

Our intention is to create a sacred, welcoming container where participants can:

• Reconnect with the body through slow and gentle somatic movement
• Settle the nervous system and embodied states of harmony & balance
• Experience deep rest through sound and meditation
• Honor the the New Moon (in the astrological sign of Aires) as a time of reflection and intention
• Gather in conscious community

The setting: Santa Rita Lodge — an enclosed yurt in a mountain setting in Madera Canyon (“a birders paradise!”) — offers a unique and intimate space for this experience. It is about a 45 minute drive from Tucson. Overnight stay at the Lodge is optional, but you’ll want to make a reservation ahead of time.

Offered with open-heart pricing — give what feels aligned — this gathering is intended to be accessible for all who feel called to attend. It offers a chance for Tracy and James to meet the Santa Rita Lodge community and for the community to get to know them. Although both facilitators teach nationally and internationally, opportunities to share locally in Tucson are rare and deeply meaningful.

Following the movement and sound portion, participants are invited to gather around the fire pit for an optional community circle to honor the New Moon, Earth Day, and the simple joy of being together.

This ceremony is offered in the spirit of introduction, relationship, and shared exploration as we discover what may grow from practicing together.

All levels are welcome.

More info about polyvagal yoga and facilitators

Description of Polyvagal Yoga:

Polyvagal Yoga is a therapeutic practice that blends yoga with Polyvagal Theory to support nervous system regulation, trauma healing, and a deeper sense of safety in the body. Through gentle, mindful movement, breathwork (pranayama), and self-compassion, it helps tone the vagus nerve and guide the body out of stress responses such as fight or flight. The practice aims to quiet the body’s internal alarm system and shift the nervous system toward a state of calm, connection, and restoration.

After 50: Why Sleep Matters More

After 50, sleep becomes more than rest—it becomes a key regulator of muscle preservation, glucose metabolism, and hormonal balance.

Research shows that age-related changes in muscle signaling can make strength gains and tissue repair less efficient over time. While the stimulus for growth begins during movement and resistance training, it is processed and integrated during deep sleep—particularly during slow-wave cycles when growth hormone release supports protein synthesis and cellular repair.

When deep sleep is disrupted:

  • Muscle repair becomes less efficient
  • Inflammatory markers may rise
  • Insulin sensitivity can decline
  • Glucose regulation becomes more fragile

Even short-term sleep restriction has been shown to measurably impair metabolic flexibility.

The Missing Link: Nervous System Regulation

Yet what is often overlooked is this:

The nervous system determines whether the body can access restorative sleep states at all.

Many adults carry decades of subtle muscular guarding and low-grade sympathetic activation. The body may be tired—but the nervous system has not fully downshifted.

Rather than stimulating the system further, this approach works neurologically—helping normalize muscle tone, support vagal regulation, and create the internal conditions necessary for deeper sleep and metabolic integration.

What Makes This Approach Distinct

Traditional “bedtime yoga” often focuses on stretching, but James Knight’s somatic method works at a deeper neurological level. These aren’t poses you hold—they’re movement explorations that retrain your nervous system’s habitual patterns. Many people over 50 carry decades of compensatory movement patterns and chronic muscle guarding that create a constant low‑level stress signal, keeping the body in sympathetic (fight‑or‑flight) dominance even when you’re trying to rest.

The somatic approach uses three key principles:

  • Pandiculation: The natural contraction‑release pattern you see in animals stretching, which helps reprogram muscle length at the brain level.
  • Slow, mindful movement: Speed and intensity trigger arousal; slowness signals safety to your nervous system.
  • Internal attention: Shifting from “doing” to sensing, which activates the parasympathetic (rest‑and‑digest) system.

In this four-session livestream series, participants will explore:

  • How nervous system regulation creates the conditions for deeper, more restorative sleep.
  • The relationship between muscle tone, autonomic balance, and metabolic efficiency.
  • Why pandiculation resets muscular patterns more effectively than static stretching.
  • How somatic awareness shifts the body from sympathetic dominance toward parasympathetic regulation.
  • Practical tools to improve restorative capacity—whether expressed as deeper sleep, more efficient recovery, or sustained daytime vitality.

Sleep is one expression of restoration. But restoration begins with regulation.

Through slow, mindful somatic movement explorations, participants learn to reduce chronic contraction patterns that subtly signal threat to the brain. As the nervous system experiences safety, the body becomes more capable of entering hormonal and metabolic states associated with repair and recalibration.

Educational Focus and Outcomes

By Week 4, participants will not only understand the connection between sleep, muscle, and metabolism—they will have embodied tools to:

  • Improve self-regulation
  • Support metabolic resilience
  • Enhance recovery following strength training
  • Develop greater trust in their own somatic rhythms and somatic intelligence

This series is designed for yoga teachers, therapists, healthcare professionals, and adults interested in longevity who wish to integrate nervous system science with practical, compassionate somatic tools. The emphasis is on exploration over performance and internal sensing over external achievement—guiding participants to rely less on imitation and more on embodied self-trust.
