James Knight – Founder of Gentle Somatic Yoga® & Somatic Wellness™ | Somatic Yoga for Pain Relief, Mobility & Nervous System Healing
James Knight is the founder of Gentle Somatic Yoga®, an innovative method that blends Somatic Movement Flows®, therapeutic yoga, and neuroscience-based practices to promote chronic pain relief, improved mobility, and increase mind-body awareness. A recognized leader in the field, James was one of the early pioneers—starting in the early 1990s—to bridge the principles of somatic education with traditional yoga practices.
With over 35 years of experience as a yoga teacher, movement educator, body-oriented psychotherapist, author, and bodyworker, James developed Gentle Somatic Yoga to help people of all ages and abilities overcome muscle tension, stress, and limited mobility. His work is especially beneficial for aging bodies, trauma recovery, and those seeking natural alternatives to healing.
Through his Somatic Wellness™ programs, certified teacher trainings, online courses, and international retreats, James is passionate about helping others reclaim freedom of movement, embodied vitality, and inner peace. His non-hierarchical approach integrates neuroplasticity, functional movement, and holistic healing, making his teachings accessible to both beginners and experienced practitioners.
As a Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider, podcast guest, and international speaker, James is a trusted voice in the somatic movement and yoga therapy communities. His teachings provide practical tools for mind-body healing, nervous system regulation, and lasting transformation—all rooted in compassion and self-awareness.
